Poker is a card game that involves betting and a lot of skill. It can be played by two people or more, with a variety of rules and strategies. It can be a very addicting game to play, especially if you’re good at it!
To start off a hand each player puts in some money before getting their cards (the ante). This creates the pot and encourages competition. After that, each player gets their cards and begins betting (as well as raising or folding their hands). The best five-card poker hand wins the pot.
When the betting is over, the dealer deals three cards face up on the table (revealed to all players). These are known as the flop. After the flop another round of betting occurs.
After the flop the dealer then puts one more community card on the table (revealed to everyone). This is called the turn. A final betting round occurs and then it’s time for the showdown!
A full house is three matching cards of one rank and two unmatched cards. A straight is five cards in sequence but not in rank and from different suits. A flush is any five consecutive cards of the same suit. A pair is two matching cards of the same rank and a high card breaks ties.
When you want to add more money to the pot you can say “raise”. If someone raises, you can either call (put in the same amount as them) or fold.
